Measuring Mental Fitness (PQ)
Mental fitness is a measure of the strength of your positive mental muscles (Sage) versus the negative (Saboteur).
This measure of your Mental Fitness is called PQ (Positive Intelligence Quotient). It is the X-Factor in Performance & Happiness.
Research with 500,000 participants has shown PQ to be the best predictor of how happy you are and how well you perform relative to your potential.
If you’re physically fit, you can climb steep hills without physical stress. If you’re mentally fit, you can handle life’s great challenges without mental stress or other negative emotions. You’ll be happier and perform better.
This work is a synthesis of the latest breakthroughs in neuroscience, cognitive and positive psychology, and performance science.
The research is the basis of Shirzad Chamine’s New York Times bestselling book “Positive Intelligence,” and Stanford lectures.
How You Self Sabotage
A key to Mental Fitness is to weaken the internal Saboteurs who generate all your “negativity” in the way they respond to challenges. Your Saboteurs cause all your stress, anxiety, self-doubt, frustration, regret, shame, guilt, and unhappiness. Saboteurs include the Judge, Controller, Avoider, Victim, Stickler and 5 others.
Your “Sage” lives in an entirely different region of your brain and handles challenges in ways that produce positive emotions like curiosity, empathy, creativity, calm, and clear-headed laser-focused action. You’d perform better and feel happier.

PQ Training
Boosting your mental fitness requires building powerful new muscles in your brain, not just insight.
Combining weekly video sessions and an exclusive App, Shirzad Chamine guides you step-by-step over a six-week period to boost the 3 core muscles of mental fitness. One of the many research-based tools of Positive Intelligence is “PQ Reps.” These simple 10-second exercises build up new “muscles” (neural pathways) in your PQ Brain region.
The increased grey matter in the “Sage” region of the brain is visible in MRI imaging within 8 weeks. This region releases endorphins that counter stress-related hormones caused by your Survivor Brain region and its associated Saboteurs. As you strengthen your PQ Brain, you are able to meet your challenges with a calm and clear mind, laser-focused on insight and action.
The experience is often described as lifechanging.
